It can’t be avoided and it doesn’t matter what season we’re in, if the weather’s nice there will be road construction around Illinois.
The Illinois Department of Transportation is currently in the middle of several road construction projects and Galesburg is not exempt from that work.
You’ve probably noticed around Carl Sandburg Drive and route 1-50 the road has been all torn, up and IDOT spokesperson Brian Willamsen says at this time he does not have a completion date for that work.
However, Willamsen did tell the WGIL Morning News the stretch of road near Linwood and Main is finally getting fixed and it should be finished by the end of this week.
“Getting that intersection paved there and a nice smooth road surface for everybody in that area, so I know that will be a welcome, welcome sight. In the mean time you’ve got a few stoppages there during the day while the crews are through there, about ten to 15 minutes at a time kinda intermittent, so we’re looking to have that work wrapped up in about a week.”
Willamsen says when it comes to road work IDOT takes advantage of when the weather’s nice and even though the calendar says it’s fall doesn’t mean road construction stops.
He says as long as the weather’s nice crews will be out working, and Willamsen wants to remind people to watch for crews and slow down in work zones.
