The costs are almost right where officials with the Galesburg School District Master Facilities Plan thought they’d be with what will be the second phase of work on the construction of a new Silas Willard Elementary School.
The District-205 Board met briefly this afternoon, and approved $1.5 million in bids as part of the second of three bid packages for the work — one dealing with pre-cast concrete panels, the other dealing with structural steel and its installation.
Andy Cook with project manager Russell Construction says the bids are close to on-target.
“That’s about $28,000 more than we had estimated for this bid package so within 1% so a really good number, very pleased with these bid results.”
Mount Pleasant, Iowa-based MPC Enterprises will take care of the pre-cast concrete work, while Davenport-based Cedar Valley Steel had the low bid for the structural steel and installation.
Cook says final construction documents will be done in January, at which time the final bid package will be sent out to prospective bidders.
Work is currently being done to improve the current parking situation at the site before actual construction can get underway.
