SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) — Benedictine University in Springfield has decided to cancel the rest of its womens’ basketball season because they don’t have enough players.
The (Springfield) State Journal-Register reports that athletic director Nikki Bull-Eguez made the announcement Thursday in a news release on its website. The statement says Bull-Eguez and American Midwest Conference Commissioner Will Wolper made the decision Wednesday.
They say continuing with a limited number of players for the Bulldogs wouldn’t be in the best interest of the school or the conference.
The school’s men’s program won’t be affected. Bull-Eguez also was confident the Bulldog baseball and softball teams would be ready to play in the spring.
