Last minute decorating and putting on the final touches gave way to a new women’s clothing store that opened Saturday on Seminary Street in Downtown Galesburg.
My Kind of Country, a country themed women’s clothing store that sells “trendy” clothing and accessories, opened its doors to a warm welcome as residents filed in to view the items and partake in appetizers.
My Kind of Country owner Ashleigh Ryan began her business a little over a year ago in Aledo. It was announced in December that the company would be moving to Galesburg.
Ryan tells WGIL that the move to Galesburg had a lot to do with her love of the downtown area.
“When I started in Aledo, the foot traffic just wasn’t there,” Ryan said. “So, I kind of went out on a limb and contacted Seminary Street, and there just happened to be a building open. I made the move, and here I am. I hope to bring a little bit something there isn’t. There are boutiques here, and I get the question, do I feel like there’s competition? And I don’t feel like there’s competition.”
Ryan says she looks forward to adding to the downtown shopping aesthetic of Seminary Street.
My Kind of Country opened in the former location of Stone Alley Books and Collectibles. Stone Alley is now located on East Main Street.
