Galesburg Police and the Galesburg-Area Chamber of Commerce are issuing a warning after some phony checks have been passed at at least three local restaurants in the last several days.
Police and the Chamber say the checks look to be from Plue’s Tree Service, but are fakes, as Plue’s Tree Service does not use JP Morgan Chase as is indicated on the checks. Officials say whoever is trying to pass the bad checks called ahead and made food orders at the restaurants, then picked up the food and paid with the forged checks.
Police say if you receive such a check, do not accept them, and call police right away. Anyone with information can also call the Galesburg-Area CrimeStoppers hotline.
No suspects are currently in custody.
