Suburban Chicago Man Convicted of Sexual Abuse of Child

ST. CHARLES, Ill. (AP) — A 27-year-old suburban Chicago man has been convicted of aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a child younger than 12.

A Wednesday statement from the Kane County state’s attorney’s office says Marco A. Covarrubias-Rodriguez, of Aurora, was found guilty at trial earlier this week. He knew his victim, though the statement didn’t say how.

The victim disclosed the abuse to a counselor in 2014 and the counselor informed the Illinois Department of Child and Family Services.

Post-trial motions and sentencing is set for May 27, 2015. Covarrubias-Rodriguez faces up to seven years in prison and will have to register for life as a sex offender.

His bond was revoked following his conviction on Monday.
