Illinois Wesleyan Names Wagner Athletic Director

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (AP) — Illinois Wesleyan University has appointed Mike Wagner to be its athletic director.

Wagner is currently associate director. He’ll replace Dennie Bridges, who is retiring at the end of July after more than three decades in the job.

Provost and Dean of the Faculty Jonathan Green says Wagner has played a central role in the expansion of the athletic department during his 23 years with the program.

Wagner began working at Illinois Wesleyan in 1992.

The (Bloomington) Pantagraph reports Wagner spent his first 16 years as an assistant football coach and strength training coordinator.

He has been associate athletic director since 2004 and has been the event coordinator and facility director of the Shirk Center athletic complex.

The Woodland native is a graduate of Gurnee Warren Township High School
