Business Booms in Galesburg Thanks to Weekend Events

Galesburg-city-signA number of events took place in Galesburg over the weekend, packing hotels and businesses alike for arguably the busiest weekend of the year.

Run Galesburg Run, The Knox College Commencement, and the start of First Fridays were just a few of the festivities that took place Friday through Sunday.

Super 8 Hotel Manager Himu Patel says “there was no room at the inn” both Friday and Saturday Night. Patel says having more events in the area would be a great draw for both her business and the economy.

Owner of Landmark Cafe and Creperie Phil Dickinson added that business was almost a little overwhelming at times for his restaurant. He tells WGIL, that albeit a little stressful–a crowded restaurant is a good problem to have.

“Traditionally, the Knox Graduation weekend is either our busiest weekend of the year, or in the top two,” says Dickinson. “I would say with confidence, that this year will not be any different, I think we actually had our busiest week ever with all of the events. While it’s a challenge to get everybody in–that’s a good challenge.”

Dickinson adds that the multiple events over the weekend allowed businesses to reach a broader range of people as well.
