Gas Station Owner Faces Prison for Illinois Sales Tax Fraud

WAUKEGAN, Ill. (AP) — A northern Illinois gas station owner has been sentenced to 30 months in prison after pleading guilty to sales tax fraud.

The Illinois Department of Revenue says 47-year-old Todd Antenore of Mundelein entered the guilty plea Tuesday in Lake County Circuit Court.

State revenue department investigators said Antenore underreported taxable sales by more than $1 million. His attempt to evade $186,000 in taxes occurred while he was on probation for a previous Cook County tax fraud case.

He is set to start serving his prison term in August.

Illinois Department of Revenue Director Connie Beard says the sentence shows that Illinois takes tax fraud seriously. She praised the Illinois Attorney General’s office and her department’s criminal investigation division.
