CHICAGO (AP) – Chicago’s 311 information line is taking steps to better serve military veterans and active duty service members.
The city says from now on operators will ask callers if they are veterans or service members so the callers can be connected to resources and programs catered to the military and veterans.
Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel says this will improve the quality of service that the city can provide to veterans.
Callers to 311 in Chicago can request and receive a range of services such as employment help, senior well-being checks, emergency food and crisis referrals.
The city says asking about military status is now included in the 311 training process. The city also will be able to track and report on the kinds of services that veterans request.
