Dan Swanson to Run for 74th District Seat

dan swansonAn Alpha man will officially announce tomorrow that he plans to run for the Illinois House of Representatives in District 74.

56-year-old Dan Swanson will try to be the successor to longtime Republican Representative Don Moffitt, who announced earlier this week that he would not be seeking election.

Swanson is the current Superintendent of the Henry County Veterans Assistance Commission. He served 17 years on the AlWood Board of Education, 2 years on the Henry County Board, and is a retired Lieutenant Colonel in the Army and Army National Guard.

Swanson says he is passionate about serving all Veterans, especially soldiers in the National Guard. Swanson wants to re-evaluate education resource distribution as well. The Henry County Republican tells WGIL that he believes in term limits as well.

“I’m not going to be a professional politician, I’m going to be three terms and let the next person serve after me when I come back to my community,” says Swanson.

Swanson adds that he will oppose an increase in taxes. When asked why he was running, Swanson said because he felt a need to serve the community.

“I’ve just always been willing to get out and do service for our community and the people. I see this not as a challenge, but I this as an opportunity. I am looking forward to serving the people of the 74th District.”

Swanson will formally make announcements in Andover, Galesburg and Aledo.
