Plea hearing set in East St. Louis strip club killing

EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. (AP) — A plea hearing is scheduled for an East St. Louis strip club bouncer charged with killing a customer with his pickup truck and beating a dancer and two others.

Reginald Allen was scheduled to stand trial earlier this month on aggravated battery and mob action charges in an alleged 2012 attack at Miss Kitty’s. A plea hearing has instead been set for Dec. 7.

He’s also set to offer a plea that day on a reckless homicide charge involving Anthony Rice’s 2009 death.

Allen, who is white, is accused of driving over Rice, a 23-year-old black man, in the parking lot of the now-shuttered City Nights bar. Authorities say Allen taunted Rice and his brother with racial comments.

Court hearings in that case have been postponed 17 times.
