A Galesburg man appeared in Knox County Circuit Court today on charges of possession of meth manufacturing materials, unlawful transportation of meth precursor and other drug offenses.

Nicholas M. Hennenfent is represented by court-appointed attorney Jim Harrell — Public Defender Gavin Robinson stood in for Harrell today.

According to police reports, Hennenfent was arrested Saturday in the Hi-Lo Grocery parking lot during a routine traffic stop. Police spotted a box in the bed of his pickup truck with gallon plastic baggies, common in meth production.

When asked about the suspicious items, the 24 year old said he had other similar items in his possession, including coffee filters with white residue and tubing.

The suspect is an Illinois Department of Corrections parolee in light of an April 2013 conviction for unlawful possession of anhydrous ammonia.

Judge Paul Mangieri set Hennenfent’s next court date for 2 p.m. Feb. 23. He remains in the Knox County jail on $100,000 bond.
