A Galesburg man is in the Knox County jail following an early morning arrest today for a small amount of meth.
Police reports show Galesburg police pulled over the vehicle driven by Franklin E. Joseph around 2 a.m., when officers observed the car had an apparent defective exhaust system.
Joseph failed to show proof of insurance and while the officer was writing the citation a Galesburg K-9 Unit arrived on the scene and performed a free air sniff.
K-9 Cairo alerted to the front passenger side of the vehicle.
Officers then began a search locating a “black hollowed out tube pen with a white residue” and a small plastic bag containing a “white powdered substance” which tested positive for meth by an officer who administered field test.
Joseph could face up to 5 years imprisonment for a class 3 felony of possession of meth under 5 grams.
Joseph appeared in court via video from the Knox County jail. Judge Scott Shiplett set bail at $1,500.
His next court date is set for Mar. 7 at 11 a.m. with a public defender.
