Knox County Farm Bureau elects new president

As of last month’s Knox County Farm Bureau Board meeting, Grant Strom is the organization’s new president.

Strom was elected by the board after previous President Tim Main stepped down.

As Strom explains, members can only serve on the board for 10 years and can only serve as president for three. Main, who has one year left to serve on the board, had been president for two years and wanted his last year to be under regular member status.

Strom tells WGIL he hopes to continue running the bureau much as Main did.

“My main goals for the Farm Bureau are just to continue to be a vehicle and activist for farming and rural development in Knox County,” he says, “a place where our farmer and non-farmer members and rural members can have a voice and find out about issues that may be affecting their farms and properties.”

The 2003 University of Illinois graduate grew up in the Williamsfield-Dahinda area where he continues to farm corn and soybeans with his family. The farm also has a few beef cattle, for good measure.

Strom says he wants to keep channels open with consumers about where their food comes from, the importance of local agriculture and land use.

He has served on the Farm Bureau Board for five years and has been vice president and secretary prior to becoming president.
