205 delays budget cut finalization, will review member replacement tonight

The District 205 school board will not be voting to finalize proposed spending cuts at tonight’s meeting as was originally scheduled.

Those votes will likely take place at the board’s March meeting, by which time the 45 day deadline the board has to seat a replacement for departing member Rick Welty.

The board has placed an ad in the Register Mail to solicit resumes and candidates interested.

Superintendent Ralph Grimm tells WGIL that several have submitted themselves to Board President Bob Lindstrom.

“Board President Lindstrom will review those and then report to the board on those in closed session Monday night,” Grimm says.

As far as budget cuts, differentials for 33 club sponsors at the high school and two middle schools remain under consideration which in some cases could effectively end the club.

Community members and organizations have been exploring options of funding the differentials with donations. Although Grimm says he has some concerns about funding programs this way.

“If someone wishes to fund an item, is that funding going to continue? If not, then how does the process work regarding those particular items a year from now?”

Tonight’s agenda also includes a vote to approve the relocation of the Technology Learning Center to the new Silas Willard building and how the board wants to proceed with replacing the district’s chromebook laptops.
