In 2014, Galesburg police arrested Richard Garza for his involvement in a meth fire that destroyed a South Kellogg Street home.

The 28-year-old Galesburg man was sentenced last year to 24 months of conditional discharge. The other suspect involved in the fire, 47-year-old Michelle Esp, was sentenced to two year’s of drug court.

Following a Saturday morning drug bust, Garza is back on the hook for cooking meth. He faces charges of unlawful participation in meth production and possession of meth manufacturing materials.

Assistant State’s Attorney Sabrina Stroops says about 1,200 grams of the completed drug were found in the West Third Street home where Garza was arrested. He could face up to 60 years in prison for the meth production charge.

Galesburg police reports show Garza was arrested over the weekend along with 20-year-old Michael J. Tarrant and 19-year-old Kaleigh A. Whitson.

Tarrant faces identical charges to Garza in addition to a charge of providing property for the meth cook. Whitson is also accused of unlawfully providing property for meth production.

Tarrant and Garza are held in the Knox County jail on $100,000 bond. Whitson is free on $25,000 bail.
