Former Country Elms Estate manager turns self in on elderly exploitation warrant

A former manager of a Galesburg mobile home park was taken into custody following a lengthy investigation into the financial exploitation of an elderly person.

Knox County Investigator Joe Sims tells WGIL Nicholas D. Still turned himself in yesterday on a $25,000 warrant. The 32-year-old Abingdon man is accused of conning the victim out of more than $30,000.

Sims says Still was a manager at Country Elms Estate in spring of last year when the Sheriff’s Department investigation began.

The victim had purchased a trailer that was in disrepair from Still in early 2015. After health problems led to the hospitalization of the man, Still offered to repair the trailer. The victim entrusted Still with his checking account, Sims says.

Repairs, which should have cost anywhere between $3,000 and $7,000, were not made despite more than $30,000 being taken from the victim’s account.

Still was released from the Knox County jail $25,000 bond.
