Knox County will begin altering the way employee hours are tracked.

County Board Chairman Brian Friedrich was at last night’s Board of Health meeting to help explain the necessity of having a time clock type system to track hours.

He says one of the things it will do is make it easier to keep records in the event of an audit and for efficiency in the treasurer’s department.

“There’s a lot of things that come along with the time clock,” Friedrich says. “Throughout the county, people get paid different days and different times of the week. This whole thing will bring a lot together and will make it a lot easier for our treasurers office. With different departments, they are spread all over the place.”

But part of what prompts this is the Affordable Care Act which requires employers provide health insurance for employees that work over 30 hours a week.

The system would also allow workers both salaried and hourly to keep track of their benefits, for example vacation days.

Friedrich says the system will be rolled out incrementally, beginning with a few departments so kinks can be worked out.

In other Board of Health business, the department is searching for a Chief Medical Officer and a second advanced practiced nurse for the health clinic.

In her staffing update Public Health Administrator Michele Gabriel, formerly Fishburne, also informed the board of the departure of Director of Operations Kerry Howard effective Feb. 3 saying it “just didn’t work out”.
