The great soups of Galesburg will all be swirling in one broth of a fundraiser held by the Galesburg Civic Art Center this Thursday.

Great Bowls of Soup is one of the biggest fundraising events the center holds all year.

This is the 8th year that the event will feature hand-made work of local potters.

Guests can pick out a bowl to keep and fill it with soup, bread or deserts provided by a litany of area eateries.

Some of the restaurants represented are Budde’s, Landmark, Iron Spike, Hammer’s General Feed Store, just to name a few.

Director of the art center, Tuesday Cetin tells WGIL she thinks it’s a successful fundraiser because it’s an event that doles out community closeness.

“You see people you don’t normally see,” Cetin says. “You’re all eating together and enjoying music and of course the handmade bowls are the highlight.”

The event is held at the Galesburg American Legion and since 400 is the total occupancy of the building and in previous years they’ve reached that ceiling, Cetin recommends purchasing tickets in advance.

The atmosphere will be garnished by music from the Daniel Leahy Jazz Trio.

Raffles for prizes as varied as art supplies, yoga classes and ceramics will be available, 5 for $5, $10 for an arm’s length or $20 for a wing span.

All the proceeds go to benefit the exhibitions and educational programs at the Galesburg Civic Art Center.

Tickets are available now at the center or Innkeeper’s Coffee for $20 or can be purchased for $25 the door.
