A Galesburg teen held at the Mary Davis Home for burglarizing three motor vehicles earlier this month is now in the custody of the Knox County jail for attacking officers.

Drake Mortensen appeared in court via video today. Assistant State’s Attorney Sabrina Stroops says Mortensen was arrested as a juvenile April 2 after he was spotted breaking into three different vehicles parked at Gates Rubber Company.

During his arrest, Mortensen struck an officer several times, kicked him in the chest and reached for another officer’s gun.

After turning 18 this month, Mortensen attacked a Mary Davis Home officer. Following the attack, his case was reopened in adult court.

The teen faces three counts of aggravated battery, burglary, and resisting arrest in addition to one count of attempting to disarm a peace officer.

Judge Stephen Mathers set Mortensen’s bond at $50,000 today and appointed a public defender to the case.
