Chicago social club reports breach of guests’ personal data

CHICAGO (AP) — The Union League Club of Chicago says a worker stole guests’ payment card information and is urging patrons to watch personal financial activity.

The 140-year-old club says the worker used key-logging software to collect names, account numbers and expiration dates.

The Chicago Tribune reports the social club learned March 5 that payment-card information had been obtained from “some of our guests.” It urged those who used a card from Dec. 10, 2015 to March 2 to carefully review account statements for unauthorized activity.

Club officials said, “To date, we have no evidence that any of the information copied by the employee has been misused.”

The club hired a security firm to examine computers, has taken safeguards and fired the unnamed employee.
