There were plenty of horns honking and children climbing in and out of all sorts of vehicles today at the Lake Storey Pavilion.

The annual “Touch-A-Truck” event took place this morning–a day where hundreds of kids get the chance to experience hands on fun with bulldozers, tractors, emergency vehicles and more.

Hedding Grade School Teacher Julie Vickroy brought a group of her students from Abingdon out for the event. She told WGIL a full day was in store for the group.

“We’re going to touch some trucks, honk some horns and take some pictures,” Vickroy said. “We’re going to have a picnic at Lincoln Park and play for our recess and head home.”

What was the most anticipated vehicle on site? The group seemed to agree on one in particular, which was new to the event this year.

“The race car!,” students Bentley Sroka, Draven Brummett, Jackson Nolan and Issac Smith all yelled.

Representatives from the Knox County Sheriff’s Department, Ameren and Illinois National Guard had vehicles on display alongside numerous other organizations. A petting zoo and agricultural learning attraction were on site as well.

The City of Galesburg’s Parks and Recreation Department hosts the event each year.
