Ex-prosecutor facing retrial in wife’s death back in court

QUINCY, Ill. (AP) — A former Illinois prosecutor facing a second murder trial in his wife’s 2006 Valentine’s Day death is expected to seek a lower bond in his return to court.

Defense attorney Jon Loevy tells the (Quincy) Herald-Whig he will ask a judge on Friday to reduce Curtis Lovelace’s $5 million bond in advance of a July retrial. The lawyer represents a University of Chicago legal clinic that works to overturn wrongful convictions.

A February murder trial for the former assistant Adams County state’s attorney and University of Illinois football captain ended in a mistrial after jurors deadlocked.

He was arrested in 2014 after Quincy police took a fresh look at a case in which the cause of first wife Cory Lovelace’s death was initially ruled as inconclusive.
