Those who have a passion for food and crafts produced locally will be eager to welcome the Galesburg’s Farmer’s Market back for the season starting this Saturday.

This year the newly formed Galesburg Farmer’s Market Association will be managing.

Previously the Galesburg Business Association and one of their members Kathy Allen had overseen the weekly seasonal event.

Allen says that the new association came from the growth of the market.

“Moving it in the direction of forming it’s own association will help it expand,” Allen says.

She says the GFMA is in the process of getting formed and organized but its charter members include Allen, CEO of Sitka Salmon Shares Nic Mink and Alderman Peter Schwartzman.

A farmer’s market news release says that the board also hopes to consist of additional market vendors and community members.

Allen tells WGIL that many favorite vendors from years past will be back.

“We’re always looking to bring in more produce vendors so we can get local food to local people,” Allen says.

The first market will featured about 15 vendors, selling produce and baked goods and will continue in the same location every Saturday up until Oct. 22.
Also back by popular demand will be a knife sharpening vendor.
