Looking to spend a little time with some furry friends on Memorial Day weekend?

Bark in the Park is from 8 to 11 a.m. tomorrow at the Lincoln Park Pavilion. The 11th annual event offers a dog walk, contests, raffles, face painting and plenty of doggie activities.

Entry is $15 and the proceeds go to the Guardian Angels Humane Society.

Cathy White is the founder and president of Guardian Angels. She tells WGIL the shelter has provided more than $1 million over the past 11 years in medical care and spay and neutering services to needy pet owners.

“We estimate that we have helped over 15,000,” White says. “We spayed or neutered over 8,000. We’re hoping that’s made a difference in the number of animals that are taken to the shelter, especially this time of the year when a lot of unwanted litters of kittens and pups are born.”

Also this weekend, a Memorial Day service will be held from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday at Silent Home Cemetery in Cameron. Owen Muelder will be the guest speaker. He is Director of the Galesburg Colony Underground Railroad Freedom Station at Knox College.

And, of course, the Galesburg Memorial Day Parade marks the beginning of next week. That steps off at 10 a.m. Monday in the 100 block of North Seminary Street.
