Budget talks for Fiscal Year 2017 will continue tonight when Galesburg City Council convenes for a work session.

A discussion of Public Safety department staffing is on the agenda this evening, just one of a number of departments that have already and will continue to be discussed as aldermen look for ways to battle a $2 million plus budget deficit.

Mayor John Pritchard says tonight’s meeting will provide information, while action to balance the budget could be expected sometime this fall.

Last year, council deferred taking action on funding fire and police pensions–a cost that Pritchard says continues to rise.

While department budgets are sorted out, aldermen will continue compiling information for the overall spending plan.

Tonight’s discussion takes place at 5:30 p.m. in the Erickson Conference room inside City Hall.
