More than one-third of Warren County experienced a power outage early this morning.

Ameren, Illinois Spokesperson Tucker Kennedy told WGIL that the outage was caused by a “fuse malfunction” on a transformer at a Monmouth-area substation.

Power went out shortly before 4:30 a.m. and Kennedy says Ameren crews have since restored electricity for the majority of customers affected.

Nearly 2,600 were without power at the height of the outage.

Heavily affected areas included Monmouth, Cameron and Kirkwood.
