Galesburg firefighters extinguished their second fire in two days today after a home at 285 Knollcrest Drive ignited this morning.

Fire crews responded just after 6 a.m. to the scene, where heavy smoke poured from the eaves and front door of the residence, causing smoke damage throughout the home.

GFD officials say the fire was brought under control within thirty minutes of igniting. There was one person home at the time of the fire. The man was evaluated for smoke inhalation and released.

The blaze is believed to have started in the basement, where fire damage was visible, according to fire personnel. It’s been a busy week for the GFD. Yesterday, a large garage and two vehicles that were parked outside in the 500 block of North Chambers Street were all deemed a “total loss” after a morning fire took place.

The cause of both fires remain under investigation at this time.
