Disturbance reported at Cook County Jail high-security unit

CHICAGO (AP) — Cook County sheriff’s officials say deputies have resolved a disturbance at the county’s jail, where two inmates were holding another detainee hostage.

A sheriff’s spokesman says the detainees Thursday evening took control of a housing tier in the maximum security division of Cook County Jail. The spokesman says the inmates covered the floor and obscured cameras within the tier with soapy water. They later destroyed the cameras.

Officials say there are 16 detainees in the tier, with one held hostage with a sharp object.

Authorities say an emergency response team resolved the situation with one inmate suffering a non-life threatening injury. No guards were injured in the incident.
