The real winners at the Taste of Galesburg are all the full bellies at the end of the night but there are also some prizes for the food vendors.

Event coordinator Sue Dickinson told Galesburg Live on WGIL last week that the stakes were raised for this year’s food competitions.

“This year we have 25 restaurants. That is a record,” Dickinson says. “We have not had that many and the nice thing is some that haven’t been there are coming back.”

But a lot of past winners found success again in 2016.

Acapulco’s after a handful of wins the last few years took home best seafood honors for their shrimp crab ceviche bowl.

Competitors in the soup category just can’t seem to beat Landmark’s lauded spinach bisque which won the soup category for the third year in a row.

The Watering Hole had a big night, winning best wings as well as their Arnold Palmer repeating as best drink.

Pizza House has done well in the past and once again they won best pizza.

Two first timers at the taste were winners.

Carps Rail City Ribs won in the best pork category and Lake Bracken Country Club’s chicken quesadilla was champion of chicken dishes.

Brownies were the one item Q’s Cafe brought to the taste, but it was enough for the judges.
They were winners for best desert.
