Looking for something to do this weekend around Knox County?–there’s plenty of local events happening throughout the area.

Tonight, the first round of hot air balloons are expected to take to the skies for the Great Galesburg Balloon race. Balloons will fly tonight, tomorrow and Sunday. Four flights and a night glow will take place the first two nights, half of them going on Friday and the other half Saturday, all at the Lake Storey soccer fields.

Though Chicago will host Lollapalooza this weekend, you could say a “corn-a-palooza” of sorts will take place in Oneida, when the 2016 Sweet Corn Festival starts tonight.

The festival runs through tomorrow night, hosting activities like a corn toss, bed races and of course, a sweet corn eating contest.

If you’d like to get a round of golf in this weekend, Oak Run Golf Course will be the place to be. Tomorrow, starting at 8 a.m., the annual Swing for a Cure fundraiser to battle ALS will take place.

The cost is $50 per golfer or $200 for four. There is even a $10,000 hole in one contest involved. All of the proceeds go the ALS Association.

Finally, on Saturday afternoon, veterans non-profit Defenders of Freedom will hold a back to school pageant, according to organizer Bob Spears.

“The women got together at Sabrina’s (Bridal and Formalwear,)”Spears says. “They got together with them and decided they would like to have a back to school fashion show. It will be in center court at the mall this Saturday and it’s free.”

That’s organizer Bob Spears who says the event will run from 2 to 4 p.m.
