A performance assembly that has seemed to become almost a yearly event at a selected area school will take place Monday at Knoxville High School.
The MWAH! Performing Arts Troupe presents stories about teens involved in fatal crashes, suicides, bullying and more. This year, the assembly will largely focus on 15-year-old Wyatt Tomich, who died after an SUV struck him while riding his bike last August.
Joe Tomich, Wyatt’s father, will participate with the troupe. Knoxville counselor Elise Lambert-McNeese tells WGIL that Wyatt was an incoming Freshman and was a “special kid.”
“It is really special that Joe is taking time out of his busy schedule,” Lambert-Mcneese says. “It’s a very tender thing. I can’t imagine the gravity of his loss, but the fact that Joe is able to reach out and think of all of our students here at Knoxville, it shows how connected he truly is to our community and we appreciate him speaking to our students about just how precious life his.”
Other speakers include Jennifer Higgins of Geneseo, who lost her son to suicide, as well as Rep. Don Moffitt.
Last year, MWAH! performed at Galesburg High School where students reflected on the lives of KaLee Pringle and Kylie Allen–two students who were killed in a car wreck near Lake Storey.
