A Galesburg man was arrested Thursday afternoon following a high speed chase that ended in town.

Thirty-two-year-old Jacob P. Conard was arrested on aggravated domestic battery charges shortly before 12:20 p.m. when officers pursued him on I-74.

He was eventually led into Galesburg traveling on East Main before making an abrupt turn north bound on Blaine Ave and then south on Fulton.

Galesburg police reports say that officers momentarily lost sight of Conard before finding the tan van he was driving wrecked in yard on Mulberry Street with the passenger door open and the engine running.

A few minutes later he was apprehended by GPD on East South Street.

He was charged today in Knox County Circuit Court with aggravated fleeing of police and domestic battery while previously being convicted of violating an order of protection, both Class 4 felonies as well a pair of Class A misdemeanors.

The most serious charge is aggravated domestic battery, a Class 2 felony which carries 3 to 7 years and a maximum of 14 years if convicted.

Conard’s bond was set at $85,000 and has yet to be appointed a public defender. He’s scheduled for a first appearance 9 a.m. Monday.
