A Galesburg man was taken into custody early this morning for illegally possessing a loaded handgun in his car.
Forty-year-old William Hudson faces felony possession and unlawful use of a weapon charges, as well as a number of misdemeanor counts.
Shortly after 1 a.m. police pulled Hudson over in 500 block of Iowa Ave. for rolling a stop sign.
Upon search, authorities found a loaded handgun under the passenger seat. A box of ammunition was found as well.
According to police reports, Hudson claimed the gun and ammo was not his and could have belonged to a previous driver of his vehicle.
Judge Stephen Mathers set bond at $50,000 this afternoon in Knox County Circuit Court. Mathers mentioned the fact that the gun was loaded made a difference in his bond selection.
Hudson was appointed a public defender and will re-appear in court Friday at 11 a.m.
