Three Illinois cities receive federal grants to help police

CHICAGO (AP) — Three Illinois communities will receive nearly $300,000 in federal grants to help law enforcement and corrections officers.

U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin announced Monday that the cities of Rockford, Aurora and Decatur will get funds from the Department of Justice.

Durbin says the money “will help equip our law enforcement officers with the best, most up-to-date tools to do their jobs effectively and keep residents safe.”

Rockford will receive about $180,000 to buy portable radios.

Aurora is getting about $68,000 to purchase Segway motorized scooters for patrol officers and for a firearms training system.

Decatur plans to use about $30,000 to help pay overtime to police and corrections officers.
