A new restaurant is coming to Galesburg but its owner already has food ties to the town.
The Kozy Family Restaurant and Steak House is expected to be open in the 2000 block of U.S. 150 by Sept. 27.
Lonnie Sheldon and his wife will run the restaurant. The Sheldon’s currently own the Lunch Box and Wedding Elegance catering–both eateries that run out of the Sandburg Mall.
Lonnie tells WGIL he’s opening a new space because business has been good.
“We opened the Lunch Box in March and a month later we outgrew that and moved into a bakery across the hall,” Sheldon says. “We’re just kind of growing and expanding.”
Sheldon says open interviews were held and he hopes to hire around 20 employees. The restaurant should be able to seat around 70.
There’s been plenty of turnover in the space the new restaurant will inhabit. The former Kozy Inn gave way to Farmer’s Table which folded last year.
Sheldon says the new Kozy will serve breakfast and lunch as well as occasional delectable’s like steaks and crab legs. Kozy will be open 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and until 9 p.m. on Friday nights.
