Democratic Rep. Cheri Bustos has gained the support of a powerful ally in her bid to be reelected this fall.
Vice President Joe Biden announced today that he is endorsing the East Moline Democrat for Illinois 17th District seat in Congress.

Biden in a news release calls Bustos a “champion” for Illinois families, saying she has fought to keep manufacturing jobs in the U.S. and making sure workers have skills to compete in the economy.

He voices confidence that Bustos will protect Social Security and Medicare benefits and ensure that veterans have access to healthcare and jobs.

Bustos said she’s honored to receive the Vice President’s endorsement saying “no one has worked harder on behalf of working families.”

Her opponent, Patrick Harlan has sharply criticized Bustos for her support of the Iran nuclear deal, legislation to not allow suspected terrorists to buy guns, and recently has called on her to vote no on a short-term budget deal.

Harlan has been endorsed by former U.S. Congressman Joe Walsh, Chicago GOP Chairman Chris Cleveland and former U.S. Senate candidate James Marter.
