Fat Fish Pub on North Broad Street held their grand re-opening of sorts last week, after changing hands in August.

Neal Minella and John Trobe purchased the pub, which has been known for its soulful blues and rock n’ roll since opening in 2008.

Amidst a newly refinished floor and freshly stocked fridge of beer, Minella told WGIL today that the duo has kept some things the same but has made some major changes as well.

Those changes include a new kitchen staff and menu.

“We wanted to do a few things really well rather than a bunch of stuff kind of mediocre,” Minella says. “We have four or five different burgers, six or seven different sandwiches and a half a dozen appetizers.”

Perhaps the biggest thing that will both change and stay the same is the music. Original owner Burl Varner is still booking nationally acclaimed blues acts, but Minella says bluegrass, Americana and indie artists will frequent the club as well.

Fat Fish is now open Monday through Saturday from 4 p.m. until 1 a.m. weekdays and 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Saturday.

Minella and Trobe are also the owners of the former Elks Club building. The duo plan to renovate the building into its own music venue–a project that may now be on the back burner.

“Right now our main focus is here,” Minella says. “We stuck a roof on the Elk to seal it up, but that whole project might be a year or two or three down the road.”

Minella says they plan to continue cleaning out the building this Winter.
