The Illinois Supreme Court has filled the vacancy left by retired Ninth Circuit Judge William Davis.
Canton attorney Bruce Beal was chosen late last week to become the resident judge, presiding initially in Fulton County.
Ninth Circuit judges move throughout the circuit, which includes Knox and Warren counties, among others.
Beal was appointed by Justice Thomas Kilbride who sought input from an 11-person screening committee and the public.
Beal has practiced law for 40 years in Fulton County. He is a graduate of Illinois College and the Western New England College of Law.
In a news release, the incoming judge says he “embraces and looks forward to the new challenge.”
Beal will serve the remainder of Davis’ term which concludes in December of 2018. At that point, an elected person will fill the role.
