Streaks to face top-ranked team Friday

Galesburg’s opponent for this Friday night’s regular season football finale is the #1 ranked team in the state in class 5A.  The Lions of Peoria High will roar into town with an 8-0 record, with one of the most prolific offensive attacks in Illinois.  Through their first eight contests, the the Lions have averaged 58 points-per-game, including totals of 68 or more five times.  To make matters worse for the Silver Streaks, it appears unlikely that starting quarterback Jacob Ross and top running back DeAndre Moren will be in the lineup, due to injuries they suffered in last week’s loss at Rock Island. The hope is they will heal in time for the team’s playoff game next weekend.  The playoff opponent and time will be announced this Saturday evening. The game with Peoria on Friday will start a half-hour earlier than normal, as there will be no preliminary game.  Kickoff time is set for 7 o’clock, and WGIL will have the broadcast beginning at about 6:40 on 93.7FM and 1400AM with Brad Bennewitz and Jim Lee.
