If you want to stay safe and out of jail this Halloween, don’t drive intoxicated this Halloween holiday.

That’s the message Lt. Russ Idle has for area residents heading into the weekend of Halloween.

The Galesburg Police Department is warning that they’re cracking down on impaired driving in a Drive Sober, Get Pulled Over campaign enforcement effort.

Nearly 11,000 people were killed in drunk driving crashes in 2015 according to stats from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Idle recommends making a plan ahead of celebrating with alcohol to get home.

Local cab companies are an option for those who are having a hard time finding a friend to be the designated driver.

Police also ask residents to do their part to make sure others don’t drive under the influence.

Take away friends keys if they plan on driving and contact law enforcement if you see someone driving who appears to be impaired.
