Streaks/Bullets to play Chicago schools in playoff openers

It’s always great to make the IHSA football playoffs, and even better when you get to stay at home for your game on a 78-degree afternoon.  Such is the case for the Galesburg Silver Streaks, who will host Chicago Hubbard on Saturday at 1pm at Van Dyke Field.   The Streaks are riding high off of last week’s upset of previously #1 ranked Peoria High, and are pursuing the first playoff win in GHS football history.  Coach Tim Dougherty says quarterback Jacob Ross and running back DeAndre Moren are still less than 100% due to injuries, and it’s a gametime decision as to whether they will play.  If not, Streaks fans discovered last week that junior quarterback Clark Hawkins and sophomore running back Kobe Ramirez are capable replacements.  A win this week would likely send Galesburg to play longtime state power Springfield Sacred Heart-Griffin next week.  Meanwhile, the Knoxville Blue Bullets will travel to Chicago for their first-round class 2A battle with Chicago Hope.  Coach Ryan Hebard’s team recovered from an 0-2 start this year to win six of their final seven games.  We’ll provide updates on the Blue Bullets progress during our Silver Streaks broadcast with Brad Bennewitz and Jim Lee beginning at 12:35 Saturday on WGIL.
