Bob Lindstrom has announced that he will seek a 6th term on the District 205 Board of Education.
The Galesburg attorney says that there are a few crucial short and long-term projects he’d like to see through.

He complimented 205’s administration and expressed confidence in Superintendent Ralph Grimm’s plan to revitalize the district.

His experience will be an asset, he says in helping steer Galesburg schools through challenging financial times as state funding for schools has been eroding for several years.

Lindstrom tells WGIL that the role he tries to play as a board member is to facilitate discussion.

“Sometimes in a board meeting it may appear that I’m taking a particular position when in fact I’m not,” Lindstrom says. “I’m simply trying to develop the argument so we look at all sides of the matter.”

Lindstrom says no one accomplishes anything alone on the board but he takes particular pride in one measure that he pushed.

Galesburg High School’s graduation ceremony used to be on Saturday until Lindstrom learned that several students were participating at the state level for athletics.

This made it difficult for those students to attend the ceremony so Lindstrom rallied three other votes and now commencement is on Sunday.

“Maybe that’s not the biggest thing people would think of but it’s an important thing because that’s the ultimate goal, to walk across the stage and now everybody has the chance,” Lindstrom says.

Lindstrom joins GHS Senior Isaiah Harlan as the only candidates who have declared their intention to run.
