A 36-year-old Galesburg man charged with home improvement fraud will now face an additional escape charge after he ran from Warren County Circuit Court staff yesterday.

Warren County Sheriff Martin Edwards told our sister station KBUR in Burlington that Christopher Nickas appeared in court Thursday afternoon to explain why he had missed a scheduled court date earlier in the day.

A member of the courthouse staff informed him that an arrest warrant was issued for failing to appear, at which point Nickas allegedly ran from the courtroom. Edwards said local authorities attempted to apprehend Nickas but were unsuccessful.

Nickas is the owner of CN Home Improvements Inc. The Galesburg contractor has a number of pending Knox County cases including felony theft for allegedly stealing a thermal imaging camera from the Village of East Galesburg in October.

The Warren County Sheriff’s Department has asked anyone with information on Nickas’ whereabouts to contact them or crime stoppers.
