Meteorologists predicting second weekend of snow in Knox County

Forecasts have Knox County getting covered in white for the second weekend in a row.Six inches fell on the Galesburg area last weekend and now, three inches are being predicted for this weekend.

Daryl Onton, meteorologist with the National Weather Service says a system will start developing snowfall in the northern regions of Illinois as early as Saturday afternoon.

Snowfall from that system should continue into Monday morning.

Northern Illinois is expecting a more intense downfall that Knox’s expected three inches, with Onton seeing a possibility for up to 8 inches near the Wisconsin border.

Onton tells WGIL that once again the snow that hits the ground may not necessarily stay there.

“…because our temperatures are going to be rising Sunday,” Onton says. “It looks like in Galesburg it’s expected to be about 34 degrees by Sunday afternoon, so, we could see even some melting of those amounts that we get in that area.”

Once again, fellow Illinoisans closer to the Wisconsin border aren’t looking as fortunate.

Onton doesn’t see temperatures being as immediately mild as in west central Illinois, meaning their white stuff could be around longer.

Making the winter weather a little more palatable, Onton doesn’t see high winds being a factor around Galesburg.
