This weekend has old German music, a new Galesburg event and a chance to lend a helping hand.

Galesburg Express: Believe in the Magic will light up downtown on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

There are too many things going to mention them.

Just some of the happenings include free movie screenings at the Orpheum, live performances Prairie Players Civic Theatre, and a tree lighting by the Amtrak station at 5:30 p.m.

Chamber of Commerce Director Jessica Linder tells WGIL that residents can find more information including a map of the event at visitgalesburg.com

“We’ve got more than 50 businesses downtown that have committed being open and those go from Seminary Street to Broad Street which would be a long way to walk in the cold, so, we do have a trolley that will be running for people,” Linder says. “It will be stopping in seven different places downtown and that’s free.”

Then Saturday, around 50 local vocalist will perform “German love music” at the First Lutheran Church. That includes works by Johannes Brahms and Daniel Pinkham.

While Director Tim Pahel is on sabbatical, his Monmouth College colleague Ben Luedcke is directing the ensemble.

The performance starts at 7:30 p.m. and costs $12.

Also Saturday, WGIL is collecting food for local pantries in Abingdon and Galesburg.

Look for the big brown UPS trucks at Hi-Lo in Abingdon and Walmart and both Hy-Vees in Galesburg.
