Warm temperatures expected in Knox County through mid next-week

Warm temperatures will grace the Knox County area this weekend and are expected to last through at least the next few days.

Chris Geelhart of the National Weather Service says the storm patterns coming towards this area of the state are warmer because they are coming off the Pacific Ocean.

He says that tends to produce warmer weather patterns.

Geelhart tells WGIL his outlook shows an extended period of warmer temperatures going at least into the middle of next week.

“There are some signs that the end of next week will be getting a little closer to normal,” Geelhart says. “But right now it doesn’t look like there’s an significant arctic intrusions coming in over the foreseeable future.”

He’s expecting that we’ll see temperatures in the high 40’s Friday and the high 50’s for Saturday.

Less mild but still pleasant on Sunday, Geelhart is eyeing temperatures in the low 50’s.

From December through January so far there’s been much more rain and less snow than that period last year.

Since the beginning of January Galesburg has seen 2.85 inches of precipitation and 4 inches of snow.

Compare to that to this time last year when Knox County only had seen 0.9 inches of precipitation and 10 inches of snow.
