Mark Harden was the offensive story for the Galesburg Silver Streaks, largely because there wasn’t too much offense to be had until he scored 12 straight points in the 4th Quarter and rallied Galesburg from an 8-point deficit for their first lead since early in the game, and eventually a 44-38 victory, at Rock Island-Alleman.
Silver Streaks were down 8, their biggest deficit of the game, at 35-27 until Harden took over. A three-point basket capped off a 5-point possession for the Silver Streaks. Harden then scored 2 more consecutive two’s, and finished it off with a three-pointer, that gave Galesburg a 37-36 lead.
Up until that point, the Silver Streaks defense had been terrific, holding Alleman down defensively in the second half, but the offense could never get anything going. The Streaks led 2-0 in the first quarter and then trailed all the way up until the 4th Quarter. Mark Harden was tonight’s Dave’s Autobody Crunchtime Player of the Game. TJ Pendleton finished with 11 points, had a double-double with 14 rebounds as Galesburg improved to 15-11 on the season and 2 and 5 in the Western Big 6 conference.
After Alleman snapped a 37-game conference losing streak with a huge upset against Quincy last week, Pioneers fell back into their losing ways, dropping to 1 and 7 in the conference, and 12-11 overall.
Galesburg now heads to St. Charles-East for an earlier Saturday gametime and Brad and Jim will bring you coverage of that game at 5:40, with a 6:00 tip.
Galesburg sophomores lost against the Pioneers 54-53 but the varsity came back with a big win by 6.
