Students, faculty protest ex-Trump campaign manager’s visit

CHICAGO (AP) — Dozens of demonstrators gathered at the University of Chicago to protest the appearance by Corey Lewandowski, who was for a time President Donald Trump’s campaign manager.Lewandowski was on the campus Wednesday to speak at a seminar called “Inside Trumpism” at the Institute of Politics, which is headed by David Axelrod, adviser to former President Barack Obama.

The protesters, which included students and faculty members, claimed there has been an increase in white supremacist activity on campus. They contend inviting Lewandowski empowered hate groups.

In a statement, the Institute of Politics noted it “would be remiss” if it didn’t invite guests with insights into the administration’s thinking and approach to governing.

University of Chicago employee Patricia Grabovac noted the school is a free-thinking institution, where there is also a right to protest.
